This article explains where recordings from different Safemo camera models are saved, how long they can be stored, and how to expand storage capacity. By understanding these details, you can better manage your recordings and ensure important footage is well preserved.
How Your Camera Stores Recordings
SolarCam P1
- This camera does not have built-in storage.
- All recordings must be stored on the Smart Hub. In other words, the camera must be paired with a Smart Hub to function properly.
SolarCam SC1 & ST1
- These cameras include built-in 8GB local storage and can work on their own. They do not support external storage expansion (such as microSD cards). If you need more storage, you can pair them with the Smart Hub.
- Without connecting to the Smart Hub, and relying only on built-in local storage, the camera can store up to about 3 months of footage under typical use (about 30 ten-second clips per day).
Note: The more frequently your camera records or captures snapshots, the shorter the retention period will be. For details on managing snapshots, see this guide: Guide: Snapshot Recording.
How Your Smart Hub Stores Recordings
- The Smart Hub includes 20GB of built-in local storage.
- Under typical use (about 600 seconds of video per day), this provides storage for up to 6 months of recordings.
- If you need more space, the Smart Hub supports M.2 NVMe SSDs up to 8TB, compatible with models 2280, 2260, and 2242.
Note: For more details about Smart Hub storage, see this article: Safemo Hub's Local Storage: Secure, Cost-Effective, and Easy to Access.
Important Warning
If your camera (such as SC1 or ST1) was previously used with local storage only and you now pair it with a Hub, you will need to perform a RESET during the pairing process.
- This reset will permanently delete all existing recordings stored on the camera.
- Please download and save any important videos before pairing your camera with a Hub to avoid losing valuable footage.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Will storage time be reduced if multiple cameras share the same Hub?
A: Yes. The Hub's storage is shared across all paired cameras. The more video stored, the shorter the total retention period.
Q: If a camera (such as SC1 or ST1) supports both local storage and Hub storage, where are recordings saved?
A: By default, recordings are saved to both the Hub and the camera's local storage. In the Safemo app (Home page > camera settings gear icon > Storage), you can switch to saving recordings on either the camera or the Hub instead.
Q: Will recordings be deleted when storage is full?
A: Yes. When storage is full, the system automatically overwrites the oldest recordings(loop recording) so new footage can be saved. To keep important videos, regularly back them up to your phone or another device.
Q: How does the Safemo system keep my recordings secure?
A: All recordings are stored locally on the camera or Hub, keeping your data within your own private network. With end-to-end encryption (E2EE) and Safemo's secure connection technology, your videos are protected against unauthorized access.
