This guide explains how Safemo's motion detection works, why frequent recordings may occur, and how to minimize unnecessary triggers for a smoother experience.
How Motion Detection Works?
Safemo cameras use a PIR (Passive Infrared) sensor that detects changes in heat from people or animals to identify motion. Because the PIR sensor is passive—it only receives infrared energy and doesn't emit signals—it's energy-efficient and dependable for capturing real motion events.
Why Motion Detection May Be Triggered Even Without Visible Movement?
Several environmental factors can cause the PIR sensor to detect motion, even when nothing obvious is moving on screen:
- Fluctuations in ambient temperature
- Flickering or changing light sources
- Small movements caused by wind
How to Reduce Frequent Motion Triggers?
To help minimize unnecessary motion detections, try the following adjustments and best practices:
-
Lower the sensitivity level
- Open the Safemo app.
- Open Home page.
- Tap camera settings gear icon.
- Tap Motion Detection.
- Select Motion Sensitivity, then set it to Medium or Low.
-
Set a cooldown timeWhen cooldown is enabled, the camera will enter a cooldown period after completing a motion recording. During this time, it won't trigger any new recordings, even if more motion is detected. To set a cooldown time:
- Open the Safemo app.
- Open Home page.
- Tap camera settings gear icon.
- Tap Motion Detection.
- Tap Recording Settings.
- Enable Cool Down, then set a cool down time.
-
Adjust the camera angleAvoid positioning the camera directly toward busy streets or areas with frequent passing vehicles or pedestrians to help reduce unnecessary motion triggers.
-
Avoid direct exposure to strong light sourcesAvoid pointing the camera directly at headlights, streetlights, or the sun, as intense light can lead to false motion triggers.
-
Keep your app updatedThe Safemo app is regularly updated to help minimize false alerts. Be sure to install the latest version, available here: Download Safemo App.
-
Keep your camera firmware updatedSafemo also regularly releases firmware updates to improve motion detection performance. To update your firmware:
- Open the Safemo app.
- Open Home page.
- Tap camera settings gear icon.
- Tap Device Info.
- Tap Firmware Update.
