What Affects Effective Distance
The maximum distance between the camera and Smart Hub depends on several factors:
- Physical obstacles: Walls or other barriers between the camera and Smart Hub can reduce the range.
- Interference sources: Devices near the camera or Smart Hub, such as other routers or Bluetooth devices, can affect performance.
What Is the Range Under Ideal Conditions
With no walls, no interference, and no obstructions between the camera and Smart Hub, two 4K cameras can work at distances of up to about 1,640 feet.
Impact of Walls
Each wall between the camera and Smart Hub reduces the effective range by about 328 feet. The extent of this reduction depends on:
- Wall thickness.
- Wall material (e.g., concrete, brick, or drywall).
- Whether the wall is fully enclosed.
Impact of Interference Sources
Interference near the camera or Smart Hub can significantly reduce the effective range. Common interference sources include:
- Additional Wi-Fi routers (other than the one connected to the Smart Hub).
- Bluetooth devices such as wireless earbuds, speakers, smartwatches, or game controllers.
- Induction cooktops, which generate electromagnetic fields that can disrupt 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signals.
You can test the Wi-Fi signal to see the maximum bandwidth and signal strength. This can help you determine if there are interference sources near the camera or Smart Hub that may affect the connection range. To test the Wi-Fi signal:
- Open the Safemo app and go to the Home page.
- Tap the camera settings gear icon.
- Tap Network.
- Tap Test Wi-Fi Signal.
- Tap Start Test.
