This article explains how motion detection works and provides comprehensive guidance on achieving optimal motion detection on your Safemo camera.
What is Motion Detection?
The Safemo camera features advanced motion detection technology that captures and records activity within its field of view. The system is designed to monitor movement, and when it detects a change in the scene—such as a person, vehicle, or other object entering its range—it automatically starts recording.
What is Motion Type?
The Safemo camera records motion based on the selected detection type and the video on the Activity page will be labeled with the corresponding icon on-device AI. You can customize the motion detection type in the Safemo app by following these steps:
- Launch the Safemo app.
- Tap "Home".
- Tap the Camera Settings Icon.
- Select Motion Detection.
- Enable the following options under Motion Type:
- Person Detection
-
Vehicle Detection
-
Package Detection
-
Pet Detection
-
ALL Motion
Note:
-
If you enable a specific motion type, the camera will record only the selected type of motion.
-
If you enable All Motion, the camera will record any detected motion, regardless of the type.
-
The more motion the camera records, the faster the battery drains. Therefore, we recommend adjusting the settings based on your specific needs to optimize camera's performance.
What is the Motion Detection Range?
The exact detection ranges depend on installation height and angle. Typically, the range can be up to 30 feet.
How to Achieve Optimal Motion Detection?
To achieve optimal motion detection with your Safemo camera, proper installation and adjustment are essential. The following key considerations will help you maximize the performance of your camera's motion detection capabilities.
-
Mounting Height: For the best motion detection and viewing angles, we recommend mounting the camera between 7-10 feet (2-3 meters) above the ground. This height allows the camera to capture a wide, clear view of the monitored area while keeping the field of view focused on essential details.
-
Mounting Angle:
-
The mounting angle directly influences the detection range. With the recommended mounting height, the camera performs optimally when mounted at a downward angle of 10-15 degrees.
-
If you want to detect motion at a greater distance, adjust the camera with a smaller downward angle.
-
If you want to detect motion at a shorter distance, adjust the camera with a larger downward angle.
-
-
Mounting Position:
-
- Ensure Motion Moves Across the Camera: Position the camera so that motion moves across its field of view rather than directly toward it. This improves motion detection accuracy and minimizes the risk of missed events.
- Focus on Significant Motion: Position the camera in areas where significant motion is expected. Avoid high-traffic locations, such as busy streets with passing cars, as this can cause unnecessary triggers and drain the battery more quickly.
- Avoid Obstructions: Ensure there are no obstacles, such as branches or walls, that could obscure the camera's view or cause glare or hazy video, especially during nighttime recording.
- Avoid Glass: Do not install the camera behind glass or similar materials, even if they are transparent. Motion detectors cannot function properly through glass, which will prevent the system from detecting motion effectively.
