"Familiar Faces" uses AI to recognize human faces captured by your camera. When a familiar face is detected, you’ll receive a notification mentioning their name, and you can filter and review past events by specific people. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of this feature:
Best practices for recognition
Camera Placement: Position your camera so it can easily capture faces. Familiar face detection works best when the person is facing the camera lens and is within 7-14 feet. Place the camera where people naturally walk towards it, such as facing a path or down a driveway.
Lighting Conditions: Ensure good lighting around your camera. Check your camera’s view at different times of the day to avoid glare from the sun or other light sources.
Obstructions: Facial recognition may not work well when people are wearing masks, sunglasses, or other accessories.
Handling issues with recognition
Improving Name Accuracy:
The Familiar Faces feature takes time and training to build a database and correctly associate names with faces. If you notice that a person is mistakenly labeled with the wrong name in the activity playback page, click the question mark next to the face profile and select “xxx is not in the video.” Reporting mistakes helps improve the accuracy of face recognition.
Merging Duplicate Profiles:
Sometimes, the camera may mistakenly create a new profile for a face it has already saved. To fix this, merge the new profile with the existing one in your Familiar Faces list. Merging profiles helps ensure that individuals are accurately identified in the future.
